An icon from back then

Gazelle is one of Adidas's most iconic silhouettes and paved the way for many sneaker designs since. Gazelle was first released in 1966 as a training shoe. The blue colorway was originally made for training and the red was designed specifically for handball.

Time for a comeback

Gazelle has figured on and off in Adidas Originals collections and the german brand gives it a comeback in 2016. In 1990, the Gazelle made it’s way into a completely different environment than sport, and was a popular sneaker in hip hop and rap environments, especially in Europe. This new venture created some attention as Gazelle has always been a popular sneaker of soccer enthusiasts and thus has had a more retro trainer vibe.

A style icon

The white stripes on colored suede, is nowadays regarded as a classic look for a sneaker, but in its time it was a big shift in the way sneakers were designed. The distinct Gazelle silhouette, T-toe and the contrast between the stripes and the base color, has since been an inspiration for many new models.

It was also in the 90s that Gazelle was spotted in Kate Moss and added a fashion profile to the retro trainer. Today, Adidas has revived the image of Kate Moss and interpreted Gazelle with a number of European influencers in many vivant colors.
