Top 10: Asics collabs

Asics has for many years been one of the most prolific producers of collabs with all kinds of sneaker shops, fashion houses, designers etc. Once again we have been in the archives, for our idea of an all-time Asics Collab Top 10.

10. ASICS GEL LYTE 3 X Solebox X The Sun

Released 2008

German Solebox are known for their extravagant sneaker collabs, and their 2008 Asics collab is no exception. A Gel Lyte III is covered in a UV "coating" that makes the shoe change color when in the sun and artificial light. This self-transforming collab was something the world had never seen before, which is why it deserves a spot on our Top 10.

9. Gel Saga X 24 Kilates "Tio Pepe"

Released 2012

Spanish 24 Kilates are known for their exclusive designs, all the way from design of the shoe to the execution of accersories and shoe box. Their collaborations with Asics have always involved an element of alcohol, which can also be seen with their Gel Saga "Tio Pepe Pack". The theme for this specific collab was a local sherry wine from the Feria de Abril. The shoe box was transformed into a wine casket in which a bottle of "Tio Pepe" lay along with the exclusive sneakers. Following through with an idea, Barcelona style.

8. GEL LYTE V COMMONWEALTH "Gemini"

Released 2014

Not the most flamboyant colourways on our Top 10 list, but definitely a collaboration that deserves a place on the list. As Commonwealth got the chance to make their own version of the classic Asics Gel Lyte V, they decided not to slap a lot of colors like so many other collabs. Commonwealth ended instead with making a subtle and consistent design. The theme was "Gemini" (star sign twin), the idea for the shoes was to create two identical shoes, that wew both somehow unique. This was done by "inverting" the materials on each shoe - the leather details one the left shoe, are mirrored in suede on the right, and vice verca. Truly a Collab, conceived down to the smallest detail!

7. Asics Gel Lyte III X Patta

Released 2007

The Asics Gel Lyte III X Patta collaboration marks the beginning of Patta's rich history of sneaker collabs as it was the Dutch team's first collaboration with a large sneaker brand. The colours used for this Gel Lyte III, have become synonymous with Patta, and Asics collectors all over the globe consider this  a clear must-have - which the resell price also shows!

6. Asics Gel Lyte III X Ronnie Fieg “Super Green”

Released 2013

There would be no Asics Top 10 list without Ronnie Fieg. Many will wonder why we did not choose his Asics Gel Lyte III "Salmon Toe", but the story behind the classic Ascis "Super Green" from 2013 makes it deserves a place on our list. The shoe that never saw a release date was instead donated to Soles 4 Souls who gave the shoes to the stricken people of Haiti. We love the idea of good cause sneakers.

5. Asics Kayano X SNKRFRKR "Melvin"

Released 2014

The sneaker magazine above them all has created some of the most notable collabs through time. Their great strength has been to re-launch models that had been otherwise forgotten. This time it was the lesser known Gel Kayano model which needed a helping hand. The shoe is dubbed "Melvin" and "son" to the more well-known Asics Gel Lyte III "Alvin" which Sneaker Freaker made some years before. We loved the relaunch and the strong black/yellow colourway!

4. Asics Gel Lyte III X Afew Koi "Reworked"

Released 2012

A lot of people know of Afew's collaboration with Asics from last year, but many do not know the background to the collab. Afew made the sneaker back in 2012, in an ambitious project with quality materials, and an actual "re-shaping" of the classic model. This remains to date the best silhouette on a Asics Gel Lyte III!

3. Asics Gel Lyte III X Woei “Cervidae”

Released 2012

The Dutch sneaker store WOEI put themselves on the sneaker map with their Asics collaboration. The shoe, named after the deer "Cervidae", bears the imprint of just the color combinations you would find in the wild, helping to create a subtle theme nf the shoe. The small detail with the gold "eyelaces" is just the icing on the cake.

2. Asics Gel DS Trainer 14 X Surface 2 Air

Released 2011

In second place we find a collaboration and a model not many know about. Parisian Surface 2 Air and Asics is one of the most ecsclusive Asics collabs to date, where a "high tech" running silhouette got a clean black/white expression. We hope to see others go in the same direction when it comes collabs!

1. Asics Gel Lyte III X Hanon “Wildcat”

Released 2011

Legendary colourways and Hanon go hand in hand! Their Asics Gel Lyte III, which was inspired by the local running club has been one of the most coveted Asics sneaker ever! The curry yellow and red color combination sounds strange on paper, but when you see it on the Gel Lyte III silhouette there is no doubt about why you find it on our 1st place!
